There are many criteria that can be applied to find the right translation service provider for your project. In addition to factors such as geographical proximity, additional international offices, the size of the company and other expertise, quality management is becoming an increasingly important variable.
In the area of quality management, the requirements for translation companies are specified by ISO 17100:2015, which replaced the previous standard EN 15038:2006 in May 2016. A crucial difference is that the new ISO standard is now recognized at a global level – therefore making it possible to compare translation companies around the world. The new international standard establishes specific processes, production processes and post-production processes for the core activity of a translation company. It is also recommended that your translation service provider is certified in accordance with ISO 9001:2015, as this standard is used to determine and assess the supporting elements of quality management.
When assessing potential language service providers, check if they are certified or registered in accordance with these standards. Unlike just registering, if certified, a translation company is audited on site and its processes are examined thoroughly. Registration, on the other hand, is a voluntary commitment by the service provider to operate in accordance with the relevant standards.
