French interpreting services
French is a global language, spoken by over 220 million people across five continents. It's also an official language of 29 countries, and international organizations such as NATO and the United Nations. But the fact that French is so widespread means that the various regional dialects can differ greatly from one another, especially in terms of pronunciation. Interpreting in French requires a great deal of expert knowledge, quick-thinking and precision - all skills that our linguists have built up over more than twenty years of experience in the industry.
What makes French different?
French dialects can be extremely different. For example the words and phrases that someone would use in Quebec can be almost unintelligible to someone from metropolitan France. In Europe alone, in addition to standard or metropolitan French spoken around Paris and the Loire Valley, there are also Belgian, Swiss and Aostan forms of French. Within France itself there are also regional differences between dialects, such as the Occitanian French found in the rural areas of Southern France. The French vocabulary is also growing at a faster rate than many languages, partly due to the fact that French laws prohibit the use of non-French words in official texts and websites, so new "native" words must be created. In fact, an estimated 20,000 new French words are coined each year. At EVS Translations our expert interpreters are required to know French inside-out in all its forms, as well as keep up-to-date with the latest technology-based lingo.
In our words
"Interpreting assignments are never the same. The Atlanta office recently provided a French interpreter for a focus group that explored the bread - buying habits of consumers. The interpreter simultaneously interpreted the English-speaking focus group activity to French listeners. The interpretation was recorded and later published."
